It was a beautiful Spring day in March of 1986 when I got the call. It was my Mom. She asked if I was sitting down; said she had some bad news. She told me she had found a lump in one of her breasts during self-examination and needed a biopsy. It was soon after her Oncologist performed a lumpectomy, removing the lump and lymph nodes surrounding the area. The biopsy confirmed the tissue was malignant ... Breast Cancer. I KNOW my mother's early detection, through her self-exam, saved her life. My Mom was a twenty-year survivor!
