My "baby" sister is 39 years old and was recently diagnosed with a rare type of breast cancer. She was at her annual gyno exam when her doctor felt something and sent her for an ultrasound, the mammogram she has last year did not pick up the tumor, it was too small yet. But after ultrasonds, MRI's, biopsies and more mammograms, it was confirmed that she has breast cancer. She will undergo surgery for a double mastectomy on November 3rd, and has a good prognosis. Thanks to her vigilance of sticking to her annual exams, it is looking like she will be just fine after the surgery. Had she not gone to the doctor and had all the follow up mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies and mri's, I don't know if that would have been the case. My parents have already lost one child, and I one sister, to cancer, we are not going to lose another. We owe this to the vigilance of maintaining routine exams and the early detection through her physician and all the great technology that was at her disposal.
