I found a lump in my breast, at this time I was laid off and had no insurance. I prayed and asked God, Help me! I heard about a wonderful program at Norwalk Hospital. They had free Breast & Cervical cancer screenings. Booked an appt. and had my screening. Well, my whole world began to unravel when the doctor told me I had take another X-ray, not sure what was on the film, but needless to say I had additional 3 X-rays. Doctor comes out and says they found something on my film. They wanted a biopsy. In those two weeks before the appt. My thoughts were the worst case scenario. Scared with multiple feelings and emotions battling at once. Then I started to pray and cry and pray and cry. Suddenly there was a peace within me and instructions in a change in my diet. Went for the biopsy and during the procedure, I ask to see what they extracted that was endangering my life as knew it. It was shape like a small worm. Results came back benign. I thanked God for the healing. Because it could of went a different way. In the mist of thanking God, I promised FATHER that I would help other unfortunate women that do not have insurance and the means of getting tested for Breast & Cervical Cancer. Today I am a advocate for the cause "Breast Cancer". Connected with The Witness Project/Stamford Hospital. I have for the past 8 years through my community and local churches have set up hundreds of screenings for women through the Avon grant and The Witness Project/Stamford Hospital. We've had huge Health Fairs promoting free screenings and early detection classes after each screenings in Stamford. Through my screenings several women were diagnosed with Breast Cancer. So it's just not enough to get screenings for our selves or reaching your relatives, your friends, your neighbors. But its about going outside of our comfort zone and reaching those who are not as fortunate as we are and becoming helpers to one another. Because it's nice when we do it together. Linda D. Lyles
