My Story
Sherry, Newton NJ

My story begins with my mom being diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 42. I remember being told the news after coming home from college for the weekend. I was 19 years old. My mother was in remission for many years and then doctors discovered the cancer had returned. Yes, my story is a sad one, but to all who read this you must realize that my mother is a fighter. She is a role model for me and others with cancer because for many years she has been battling cancer without giving up. For this, I am truly thankful. She recently told me that in May, it was twenty years since she was first diagnosed. Cancer has changed our lives. I get my mammogram yearly almost to the day. I do so because early detection is key. I know many people that have lost loved ones to breast cancer. I feel lucky that my mom has been able to battle the disease while still living life to the fullest. Thanks mom for staying strong and being tough. You are the wind beneath my wings.
