My Grandmother had breast cancer, as well as two of her sisters. Needless to say, the thought that I might one day end up with it is a constant in my mind. Back all those years ago when she had it, the treatments weren't as advanced or effective as they are today. Watching what the chemo did to her was horrible. No young women should have to experience that. I started on regular mammograms at the age of thirty five because of the family history. I've had my share of false positives - calcium deposits due to dense breasts, but, thanks to the mammogram, I know that they aren't cancer. My concern is for my young daughter. I don't want it to skip my generation and hit her. We eat right, excersise and generally try our best to stay healthy. I want the research to continue for the children. Hopefully, more advances can be made towards a cure or for better treatment than it was in my grandmothers day. The children are the future.
