I feel my story is unique in that I am both a mammographer for many years AND also a 5 year breast cancer survivor whose cancer was discovered by routine mammography!!!! I neglected this vital screening tool for 3 years, even though I work in this field.
When I finally did go for one, I discovered I had stage 2B invasive breast cancer. Not too many days go by where I do not wish I had gone sooner!!! I had a mastectomy with tram-flap reconstruction followed by chemo.
I see breast cancer almost every day during the course of my work and I try to encourage these wonderful women thru their experience and I have become a true advocate for early detection thru mammography....... Feel free to share my simple story for I hope that if just ONE woman has her mammo because of me, I have done a good thing.
